Stoke-on-Trent is also known as "The Potteries" since it has been a center for its industrial pottery manufacturing since the 17th century. The area such world renowned names as Royal Doulton, Spode, Wedgwood and Minton and based there. Stoke-on-Trent is also near The Peak District National Park giving visitors a plethora of things to do.

You'll want to start your visit by visiting the potteries. With internationally acclaimed visitors centres, both Spode and Wedgwood offer craft demonstrations, factory tours, museum collections, and bargains on fine pottery pieces and seconds. You learn about the history of pottery in the area, and how pottery is made, glazed and fired. Or, you can tour the museums and see many antique and rare pieces of pottery. You might want to consider bringing a second suitcase to bring all the pottery back that you purchase; this is the place to do Christmas shopping and to buy souvenirs for friends.

A short drive out of the Stoke-on-Trent will take you to the breathtaking scenery of the Staffordshire Moorlands and Peak District, which is the perfect backdrop for walking, cycling, pony trekking, rock climbing and hang gliding. Cycling is particularly popular, and the Peak District has several places to hire a bicycle for a day or longer and helmets are free to those who hire. You can also purchase ex-hire bikes if you like which are refurbished and tuned before sale. You'll want to keep in mind, much of the park is wild: you may encounter loose or uneven surfaces when riding, and you may run into people on horses. Or, you may simply want to hike in the park. There are many ranger-led walks and tours available for different levels of hiking ability. The Peak District also enjoys the most extensive public transport network of any national park giving you a unique chance to visit the countryside without having to worry about taking the car.

Cariba Creek waterpark is an indoor waterpark located in Alton Towers. There are water rides, pools, wave pools and water canons for adults and kids to enjoy. Tickets are priced at £12.00 for a daily ticket. The park is open from 11.30 - 8PM.

If you're looking for nightlife, you'll find plenty. The Cultural Quarter in the heart of the City Centre features many world famous orchestras, top rock bands, comedy stars, major musicals, opera and ballet productions. Alongside existing venues, the New Vic Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent Repertory Theatre and the Mitchell Memorial Theatre, the City offers the best of both professional and amateur productions. There are also numerous restaurants and bars where you can enjoy a pre-show supper or drink, and a wide range of clubs cater for various age groups where you can dance.
