Renowned as the gateway to the Highlands, Stirling, situated in central Scotland is a graceful and attractive city. It gained city status in 2002, although it has been famous for its castle for many years. Stirling contains a plethora of ancient buildings, and offers much for the historian and tourist.

Overlooking the River Forth, and standing guard over the city, Stirling castle has been lovingly restored to its original condition - a visit to Stirling would not be complete without a visit to this amazing building. Tours are available and cannot be recommended highly enough. Many famous Scottish battles of independence took place near to this castle.

Only 45 minutes from Glasgow or Edinburgh, Stirling attracts over a million visitors each year, and it is easy to see why. As well as the amazing castle, Stirling is a modern city with great shopping, friendly locals and much to do for the tourist. There's plenty for the kids too, with water slides, cinemas, bowling, swimming and skating to name a few.

The city itself is a bustling cosmopolitan delight, with cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes - pedestrianised areas make exploring the city a joy, with modern shops as well as local produce to be found in abundance. Why not try the famous scottish haggis whilst visiting this important Scottish city!

The city has a growing population of around 40,000 and despite being a city manages to retain an air of warmth and community. It's easy to get around the city, safe, and also easy to reach other areas of scotland on the excellent road network.
