Leeds

Leeds is the fastest growing city in the UK and with good reason. It's commercial prosperity in finance and media gives it great employment potential. It also has a vibrant mix of commerce, style and great night life. Leeds was voted by the CondĀŽ Nast Traveler magazine as the number one city in the UK in 2003, winning out above more well known cities such as London and Edinburgh. Recently, it was voted one of the top three places to live in the UK and is praised for it's 'good optimistic feel'. Leeds has just been voted as one of the top three places to shop in the UK by numerous independent surveys, and offers a huge range of shops and stores to suit all tastes. It was recently called 'the Knightsbridge of the North.'

Leeds also has a lively night life with live music venues, world class sport, cinema and theatre. Leeds has gained a well-deserved reputation as one of the UK's favourite clubbing destinations, and is often described as the 'leading clubbing cities outside of London." Most of these are packed into the city centre, so you can amble from one club to the next. There is a huge range of music to fit every taste including R&B, funk, latino and disco, and many clubs have more than one musical genre under one roof. There are a couple of beach themed clubs as well as gay and lesbian clubs through out the city.

The city of Leeds has a "young" feel to it, mainly because it is home to the University of Leeds, one of the largest universities in the UK. Unlike most universities in the UK, walking along the campus of the University of Leeds doesn't make you feel like you are at an "old" established university, even though you are. Rather, it feels young, innovative and technologically advanced. The students are more laid back here than at other universities, and are more likely to start up a conversation with you if you're wandering the campus.

The University of Leeds is one of the top ten universities for research in the UK and is acknowledged internationally as a centre of excellence in many academic and professional disciplines. As a result, the University attracts more industrial funding than any other in the UK. During this academic year (2004-5) over 31,500 students are attached to 700 different first-degree programmes and 312 postgraduate degree programmes. A further 52,000 men and women are enrolled on short courses with the university. It has also developed expertise in more distinctive and rare specialist areas such as colour chemistry, fire science and aviation technology with pilot studies.
