Kingston upon Hull

Kingston upon Hull, abbreviated to most townfolks as simply "Hull" is situated in Yorkshire. This little town was bombed in World War II and has an "old" town -- the part that wasn't bombed -- and a "new town" the rebuilt part of the city. The Old Town has a mixture of shops, bars and clubs. You can barter for bargains at the indoor Trinity Market where booth holders sell everything from fruit to crafts. Hull is a fun city to visit pubs and watch sports at the Kingston Community Stadium. Hull citizens are a proud, hardworking lot, and conversing at local pubs is often a colourful and entertaining affair. Talk about football, and you're sure to gather a crowd.

Hull has a professional football team who plays at the Kingston Communications Stadium. Kingston Communications Stadium, or KC Stadium as it's known to the locals, holds 25,504 people. There are plans being kicked around to expand the stadium, and possibly adding a casino and hotel to the complex. KC Stadium is home to the Hull City A.F.C. (football) and Hull FC, the local rugby team. It is the local venue for the international rugby league and it has also hosted Great Britain matches in both the Ashes and Tri-Nations. Other venues include musical acts such as Elton John, Simply Red, and R.E.M. The stadium is modern, and is easily accessible by train, car, coach or by walking. Pedestrian access is very safe and well lit. Also incorporated in the Stadium complex is the 1,500 seat Gemtec Arena sports arena, skate park, two multi-use all weather pitches, and a community learning zone, complete with classrooms, health & fitness suite, cyber cafe and library. Because this is one of the nicest stadiums in the area, it is not uncommon for acts to sell out very quickly. You'll want to buy your tickets early if you possibly can.

Before you go, you'll want to drop by the marina and waterfront to do some shopping and eat at some of the wonderful restaurants in Hull. Big city shopping is a real pleasure in traffic free streets which are the setting for live, open air entertainment during the spring and summer months. Art Galleries, discos, restaurants and other entertainment plus northern England's first Olympic standard Ice Arena, offer the visitor a varied, value for money stay in one of the country's most distinctive places. You can also walk along the yacht harbour and see some of the beautiful luxary boats docked there.

If you're an architecture buff, the Humber Bridge, the longest single span suspension bridge in the world is nearby . There is a pathway along either side for pedestrians and cyclists. This beautiful bridge is lovely by day and spectacular to see at night. Bring your camera to get some unforgetable shots.
